My current skin care routine

Skincare routine As a beauty enthusiast, when it comes to skincare, I am constantly chopping and changing, and trying out new products. Rarely would I stick to one product for so long, because there will always be some new launches, which are too exciting to resist, beckoning me to try. But for the past 6 months, I found myself quite ‘committed’ to a routine with the same products, and haven’t been swayed much by anything else.

I think when it comes to skincare, you know you have found the right routine that works for you when you can see a noticeable and dramatic change to your skin (in a good way of course!), as simple as that. As someone with normal to dry skin, hydration is key when choosing skincare products for myself. Whatever it is that’s going to help boost and maintain my skin hydration, I will happily take on board.

I start my morning routine with a spritz of Liz Earle’s Instant Boost Skin Tonic all over my face. This contains all the refreshing and soothing ingredients, such as aloe vera, calendula and chamomile, to really calm and perk up my skin, prepping it for other skincare products. Then I’ll follow with Antipodes’ Apostle Skin-Brightening Serum, which is a water-based serum that not only helps brighten up my complexion by reducing the effects of overproduction of melanin, but also helps to restore essential moisture while delivering anti-oxidant benefits.

As it is currently winter, which is the worst season for anyone with dry skin, I’ve really up my game when it comes to moisturiser. I usually swear by Lancer Intensive Night Treatment (which can be used both morning and night if you skin is very dry), but at the moment I’m currently loving Rodial’s Stem Cell Magic Gel, which is such a champion multitasking product. It acts as a hydrator and repairer and can be used in multitude of ways; from intensive moisturiser to a night mask or as a makeup primer. It also has anti-ageing benefits, helps boost epidermal regeneration, which means tighter and firmer skin with less wrinkles. I absolutely adore both the texture and scent of this moisturiser. Although it is an intensive moisturiser, it has a very lightweight texture with a pleasant cooling sensation that melts into the skin very quickly. The Stem Cell Magic Gel, as with all Rodial’s products, has a gorgeous, feel-good, spa scent, which makes you feel really refreshed and revitalised.

Then as a final step to my morning routine, I like to add a few drops of Rodial’s Stem Cell Super-Food Facial Oil and pad it all over my face. Sometimes, if I want to save time, I will just mix a few drops with the moisturiser, and they go perfectly great together. The Stem Cell Super-Food Facial Oil is a powerful cocktail of super-food actives and anti-oxidant ingredients, which targets dehydration to restore your skin’s natural glow. It also contains Rosehip Seed Oil, which promotes elasticity and firmness.

For my nighttime routine, after toning, I’ll go in with Bobbi Brown Extra Repair Nourishing Milk, a two-in-one product combining face oil with treatment serum. It is designed to be used alongside your moisturiser, and specifically catered for normal to extra dry skin, which is perfect for me. It gives your skin an extra boost of nourishing moisture for instant radiance, and work over time to rejuvenate the skin for a healthier complexion in the long run. As the name suggests, it has a white milky, runny consistency, and a lightweight texture to be expected from a hybrid of oil and serum. It absorbs into my skin in no time and has the most gorgeous calming scent that reminds me of Sisley skincare.

I use Rodial’s Stem Cell Magic Gel also as a night time moisturiser, but then add a few drops of Rodial Snake Booster Oil either after the moisturiser or mix in with the moisturiser. The Snake Booster Oil contains a special dipeptide ingredient that gives a mild freeze like effect to the skin to reduce expression lines as well as dramatically tighten and firm the skin in the long run. It also helps boost collagen production, which is always a plus in my book.

I swear this blog post isn’t sponsored by Rodial, but I’ve just been very impressed with their products of late. I’m also quite surprised that the brand has not been hyped about as much as its peers in the market. If I have to point to the products that have given me the most noticeable results, I would have to say all three of the Rodial‘s products combined, without a doubt.

Have you tried any of the products mentioned in this blog? What’s your current holy grail skincare product?

My current Face Oils for dull dehydrated winter skin

Face Oil

I have always been a big fan of face oils, which are definitely having their moment in the industry at present. I love how oil keeps my skin feeling soft and supple and stay hydrated for a long time like no other creams could. Despite the myth that oil may clog pores and cause breakouts, this can not be further from the truth. Encouraging a good balance of oil can help repair any skin problems or damage and give your skin the moisture and hydration it needs to stay healthy.

As winter approaches bringing with it the cold dry air that tends to irritate my already dry skin, immersing myself in oil on a daily basis is, for me, somewhat essential. My skin can go absolutely berserk with the winter weather and I suffer most from dehydration and dull looking complexion during the colder months. So there has never been a better time to get on with my beauty oil regime and here are a few holy grails that I can’t be without.

I’m starting with a product that needs no introduction; Sunday Riley Luna Oil, which has been majorly hyped about since its launch at the beginning of the year. It is a night time retinoid oil, which contains a gorgeous blend of organic cold-pressed oils, including Extra Virgin Avocado Oil, Grape Seed Oil, Blackberry Seed Oil and Chia Oil. Avocado Oil is known for providing amazing hydration for dry skin and combining with Grape Seed Oil, which is one of the fastest absorbing oil around, means the oil sinks into the skin fast and hydrates the skin without leaving any greasy residue. Blackberry Seed and Chia are also super oils, which are packed full with vitamins and antioxidants. But of course the real magic of this oil, the star of the show ingredient, is the Trans-retinol ester, which encourages fast skin turnover and as a result helps tackle the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and loss of skin elasticity. Luna Oil also contains Blue Tansy, which makes the oil blue, but blue tansy’s greatest features are its antibacterial, antihistamine, and anti-inflamatory nature, which makes it great also for people suffering from acne, redness and scars. Luna Oil comes with a strict instruction not to be used during the day and ‘only’ use at night time and that’s because of the retinoid ingredient, which is so powerful and effective that your skin should not be immediately exposed to sunlight afterwards.

I use two to three drops, warm between my fingers and press gently everywhere around my face,  just before I go to bed. The next morning my skin looks like baby skin, bright, supple and dewy with a hint of flushed cheeks. The scent of Luna Oil is also one of my favourites, unlike any other oils from Sunday Riley (most have the tendency to make me gag), Luna Oil has a very unique sweet scent that relaxes and readies you for bed. I normally use Luna Oil 3 nights a week and on the nights that I don’t I will switch to Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate, which has been a long time favourite, which I’ve aleady done a full review here.

In the morning I’ve been using Rodial Stem Cell Super-food Facial Oil religiously everyday and I’m completely obsessed with this oil. It is a concentrated blend of super-food active ingredients, which are rich in omega 3, 6 and 9 as well as vitamins A, B5, C and E, providing anti-oxidant benefits and specifically targets dehydration and fine lines to restore a healthy glow to the the skin. It also has advanced PhytoCellTech™ Alp Rose stem-cell technology, which protects skin from daily aggressions, increases skin cell’s vitality and works wonders for collagen production.

I can not tell you how much I adore this oil! First of all the scent is ‘to-die-for’; a very soft and subtle rose scent that is incredibly uplifting and great to use in the morning. But my favourite of all is the texture; it is so lightweight, absorbs very quickly and feels much more like a light serum than an oil. I use 2-3 drops and just gently pat it on my face and I can literally feel my skin drinking up the oil because it sinks in right away and ‘immediately’ my skin feels incredibly hydrated, supple and plump.

My last holygrail oil is Aesop Fabulous Face Oil, which I have been using for years and years because it is such an all rounder and it works on all skin type, especially on sensitive, congested and reactive skin. It contains nine botanical oils, which were carefully selected to deliver exceptional hydration as well as detoxify, smooth and balance your skin. The oil also contains juniper berries, jasmine, and ylang ylang, which give that stunning herbal spa scent, an amazing boost in the morning.

I use this first thing in the morning after I get out of bed because my skin can sometimes feel pretty dry in the morning. I normally go in to the bathroom, splash my face with cold water to wake myself up and then use a few drops to pat on my face before heading downstairs for a cup of tea and some breakfast (I’m one of those people who need a lot of downtime in the morning before I can eventually have a shower and get ready for the day!) Another great trick I recently discovered is to mix a drop of Fabulous Face Oil with a full coverage foundation and the result is the most dewy, glowy, healthy looking complexion you can ever imagine. My favourite combo at the moment is Fabulous Face Oil mix with Cover FX Custom Cover Drops.
