The Ordinary High Adherence Silicone Primer vs High Spreadability Fluid Primer

The Ordinary Primer

Primer has become such an integral step in my makeup routine. It’s one of those products that once you’ve tried you can no longer be without, and I can personally guarantee that the benefits are real. Good primers will smooth pores, hydrate or mattify your skin, blur imperfections, and allow your makeup to go on beautifully and lasts for much longer.

Today I’m going to be reviewing two primers from The Ordinary; a brand that truly needs no introduction. The two primers in questions are the High-Adherence Silicone Primer, and the High-Spreadability Fluid Primer.

The Ordinary High Spreadability Fluid Primer

What it says on the website:

A light-weight serum like formula that increses the spreadability of subsequent complexion makeup to help avoid the unnatural and uneven accumulation of pigments especially around the eyes and on dry skin. Also acts as a light, non-oily surface hydrator for a natural dewy look. Ideal for application before concealing, or applying full coverage foundation for a natural dewy look.

My thoughts:

The Ordinary High Spreadability Fluid Primer has a ‘hydrating’ silicone gel texture that glides and smooths on to the skin very easily. Despite having a silicone consistency, the high spreadability fluid primer feels nice and silky and very comfortable on my dry skin. It does a beautiful job at blurring pores, fine lines, and dry patches, and provides a very smooth canvas to allow an even and flawless application of makeup.

The Ordinary High Spreadability fluid primer

The Ordinary high spreadability fluid primer gives a natural finish to my foundation (neither dewy nor matte), and stops my foundation and concealer from gathering or clinging on to any dry patches or fine lines. It does prevent my makeup from moving, fading, or looking blotchy throughout most of the day (I would say 8 hours max). I wouldn’t say it keeps my makeup looking fresh and flawless by the end of the day but it is sufficient for everyday use in my opinion.

In terms of packaging, the high spreadability fluid primer comes in a glass bottle (not so travel friendly) with pipette dropper to dispense the product. Because the primer has a thick gloopy consistency, it is quite difficult to suck up the product with the pipette and this can get quite tedious. Although it is definitely not a dealbreaker, I would much prefer a squeezy tube, which I think would dispense the product much more effectively.

The Ordinary High Adherence Silicone Primer

What it says on the website:

Ideal to use alone for a naturally perfected finish, or under makeup to improve longevity. The Ordinary High Adherence Silicone Primer uses advanced adaptive silicone to act as a matte, hydrating, blurring primer for makeup that looks higher in definition and adheres for longer.

The Ordinary High Adherence Silicone Primer can also be used alone as a non-greasy hydrator tht reduces the looks of pores and of imperfections.

My Thoughts:

The Ordinary High Adherence Silicone Primer is a white cream with a texture of silicone moisturiser. It dries down quickly but feels very comfortable on the skin, unlike some silicone mattifying primers that tend to suck any surface oil or moisture completely, making my dry skin feeling completely parched. It is mattifying but not drying and works well even on dry skin. The high adherence silicone primer does an equally good job as the high spreadability primer at blurring pores, fine lines, imperfections, and providing a smooth canvas for makeup application, which goes on flawlessly.

The Ordinary high adherence silicone primer comes packaged in a sleek and travel friendly plastic tube, which I love. But what I absolutely adore about this primer, and what I consider to be its star quality is the lasting power. The Ordinary high adherence silicone primer, as the name suggested, is literally a makeup superglue. Once my makeup goes on it just does not budge and lasts for well over 10 hours (I once used this before getting on an overnight longhaul flight and when I arrived my makeup still looked as good as new!)

Final thoughts

I’m a big fan of both The Ordinary High Spreadability Fluid Primer and High Adherence Silicone Primer for different reasons. I think people with dry skin will appreciate the high spreadability fluid primer for being able to offer hydration and comfort whilst providing a smooth and silky feel to the skin like a silicone primer. I know some people are put off by the feel of silicone, but this primer will really change your mind.

The high adherence silicone primer will likely appeal to people with normal to oily skin but having said that, I have dry skin and I still love it. The Ordinary has done an amazing job at creating 2 primers that actually cater for all skin types in my opinion, and I will continue to use both and repurchase when I run out.

Have you tried either or both of The Ordinary Primers? What are your thoughts?
