Kiehl’s Ultra Light Daily UV Defense SPF 50, the best facial sunscreen ever

Kiehl's Ultra Light Daily UV Defense SPF 50

I’m one of the rare species that prefer to stay away from the sun. Tanning is a concept completely and utterly lost on me; the idea of exposing my bare skin to the sun for up to an hour is an absolute no-no in my book. Sun damage is irrevocable and will only show up in later years, in the form of wrinkles, dark spots and pigmentation as well as premature aging, at the time when you probably need it the least. Needless to say I am a firm believer in protecting my skin from the sun all year round. At any other time of the year I can just get away with wearing light SPF because the sun is not too strong (especially if you live in the UK, where the sun is virtually non-existent). However my dilemma every year when summer comes around and I need to oomph up my SPF level is to find the right sunscreen, especially facial sunscreen, that provides high SPF whilst being comfortable enough on the skin (not heavy and pasty) for me to commit to wearing it daily without fail.

Last year I found the perfect answer to my dilemma in Kiehl’s Ultra Light Daily Defense SPF 50 PA+++ and this year I’m even more thrilled that they came out with a new and improved version. The upgraded Kiehl’s Ultra Light Daily Defence SPF 50 is a daily, ultra light sun protection, that intensely moisturises the skin whilst providing the highest level of sun filters Mexory SX and Mexoryl XI, which effectively protect the skin  from 3 types of damaging UV rays (UVA, UVB as well as deeper penetrating long UV rays). This broad spectrum formula contains Rosa Gallica that soothes and calms skin, preventing sunburn, and enriched with anti-oxidant vitamin E to prevent premature skin aging.

This is the only sunscreen that makes me very disciplined in wearing daily sun protection because it has the most comfortable light weight texture, unlike any other sunscreens I’ve tried in the past. It is oil-free, fragrance free, colour free (so none of those pasty white residue), and feels pretty much like a lightweight moisturiser that absorbs very quickly into the skin and provides all day hydration. The first time I tried it I could not believe how pleasant it is to apply and how quick it comfortably sinks into the skin, unlike the heavy sticky feeling you normally get with other high SPF sunscreens.

In a nutshell, the new Kiehl’s Ultra Light Daily Defense SPF 50 is the ONLY sunscreen I  swear by and the ONLY sunscreen I will be using from now on because nothing else can even compare. It provides better protection against wider range of sun-damaging UV rays whilst being so lightweight and comfortable to wear that you feel as if you’re just putting on a lovely lightweight mosturiser. This is a must have product and trust me you will be throwing out all your other sunscreens in favour of this one in no time.

Wake up to a better skin: Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate review

Kiehl Midnight Recovery Concentrate

I’ve recently added Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate to my skincare routine. Admittedly this is hardly a new product; it’s been around forever but for some reasons I had never got round to trying it out. But because my skin has been quite dehydrated this winter, I thought it was about time I give it a try.

What it is –> As written on the bottle, it is a replenishing elixir of pure essential oils and distilled botanicals that visibly restore the appearance of skin by morning.

Essential oils are very good for you being that they are 100% natural and are basically extracts from plants. Essential oils are natural ingredients that can easily get absorbed into your bloodstream and penetrate deeply into your skin, which makes it most effective and that’s why it works so well. Since this is definitely a natural product, it is a safe choice if you are concerned about chemicals or parabens as this contains none of those.

What it does –> “Visibly” rehydrate, plump, brighten and restore the look of healthy skin by the next morning. And I’m not even joking! You know how sometimes some products just get hyped up so much that you kind of think it’s all marketing ploy and you’re reluctant to try it. Well this was the case for me but now I’m literally kicking myself. My skin the next morning looks and feels amazing, like I’ve drunk a gallon of water and had about 10 hours sleep.

How to use it –> It’s an evening or overnight treatment, which can either be used on its own or mixed with a moisturiser. What I normally do is to use it on top of my moisturiser; so after my night cream I would rub 2-3 drops in my palms and gently pad all over my face and neck. I find this seems to lock in all the hydration overnight.

Who is it for –> Despite having an oil consistency, it is suitable for all skin type and is definitely designed to be used by everyone. Even though you might have super oily skin, you still need to keep your skin moisturised and hydrated to balance the production of oil, as your skin only produce excessive oil (which can then cause a breakout) when it is dehydrated. The more hydration you give to your skin, the less it’s going to produce the oil.

Unlike other facial oils, I find this feels least greasy on the skin. It’s very quick to absorb into your skin and does not leave that oily residue. In fact it leaves your skin feeling lovely and soft as soon as you put it on. I can’t recommend it enough!
