Favourite Lip Pencils; High-end and Budget

image1(8)

I’ve been obsessed with lip pencils of late. The reason being I’m just too lazy and can’t be bothered to keep reapplying lipstick throughout the day. The perk of lip pencils, as we all know, is that they just last much much longer and these days they come in all kinds of shades and colours and can easily become a substitute for lipsticks.

If you’ve been following my blog for a while you will also know that I don’t really experiment that much with lip colours and tend to stick with the neutral shades. So it will come as no surprise that my current favourite lip pencils are nothing far from my comfort zone. Although the somewhat exciting part is that I managed to find two favourites from a complete different end of the price spectrum; one high-end and one budget, that I equally love.

1. Chartlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat in Iconic Nude (picture left). I feel like giving myself a pad on the back when I purchased this lip liner. Just because there’s been such a major hype on Charlotte Tiibury lip liner in ‘Pilliow Talk‘ but I’ve never heard anyone mentioned Iconic Nude. I know I didn’t get along with Pillow Talk’s drugstore dupe; Rimmel lip pencil in East End Snob (it’s just too pink for me), so I thought I would try a different shade that’s abit closer to heart. Iconic Nude is a gorgeous nude shade with a soft brown and slight pink undertone. For me personally this is much more wearable than Pillow Talk and you can totally rock a Kylie Jenner look with this one.

2. Max Factor Colour Elixir Lip Liner in Brown N Nude (picture right). I stumbled across this on one of my trips to Boots. The packaging just caught my eyes because it’s very similar to the Charlotte Tilbury’s one. I swatched a few colours but Brown N Nude really grabbed my attention because although it’s supposed to be a brown nude shade (as the name aptly suggests!), it has a lot of coral undertone that I thought would go quite well with my complexion. Well I wasn’t wrong there, it is a beautiful corally nude shade that really suits and brightens my face and will be great to wear this spring and summer.

Perfect YLBB lip colour: ft. Milani lipstick in 61 Matte Naked

Milani lipstick 61 matte nude

There is nothing that Claire Marshall from HeyClaire does that I wouldn’t immediately want to copy. Unfortunately for me, her immaculately rock chic style is only reserved for the ultimate cool badass gal that she is, and for the sad self conscious individual such as myself to only dream of pulling it off (maybe in my next life, if I’m lucky).

Gushing moment over, in her recent Jan/Feb favourites vdo, she featured one particular lipstick that got me jumping up and down in excitement. It was the lipstick she also wore in the vdo and it just looked ‘perfect’. If you are like me and not that adventurous in the lip colour department, then pay attention because you will need this lipstick in your life.

The lipstick in question is by Milani in the shade 61 Matte Naked. How do I describe this shade. It’s basically ‘your lip  but better’ but way way way better.  It’s pinky but also not too pinky, it’s brown but also not too brown. I know I’m doing quite an appalling job trying to describe the colour but it’s basically a perfect nude that I’ve been looking for with a bit of Kylie Jenner attitude thrown in. In terms of formula it’s matte but (again) not too matte so you lip doesn’t look dry and it’s very very long lasting. For a very high pigmented matte lipstick it’s quite incredible how moisturising this lipstick is and how comfortable it sits on your lip.

If you want to see this lipstick in action then I suggest going over to Claire’s channel (link above) and be prepared to swoon.

My search for the perfect 90’s inspired lipstick is over

MAC Taupe

Ever since the whole Kylie Jenner 90’s inspired lip colour became only the biggest hype ever, I had been hunting high and low for my perfect shade to recreate the look. As I soon found out, not everybody can rock the same shade, and we all have to find our own version of the perfect pinky brown hue that works with our skin tone and complexion. I tried MAC lip pencil in ‘Whirl’, which is the actual shade that Kylie Jenner wears, and it’s just way too dark and unfortunately does not look flattering on me at all. Another MAC lip pencil ‘Soar’, which seems to work for a lot of people and has since become somewhat of a coveted item that is sold out everywhere, has too much of a pink undertone that just doesn’t work with my skin.

After much trial and error, I finally found my perfect match in MAC ‘Taupe’. As you can see from the swatch, it’s just another variation of the pinky brown shade but for some reasons the combination of those two colours in this lipstick just works really well with my skin tone. I think it has a bit more brown than pink and the brown is like a terracotta brown which always goes well with my yellow tone olive skin.

I think the key to find your own perfect shade is just to go and try out different colours and see which one suits you best. I know it is always tempting to go with the hype and buy whatever lipsticks or lip colours that are being raved about but from my experience this is always a hit and miss and you always run the risk of spending a fortune on something which does not suit you at all.
