A few posts back I talked about my struggle to keep things looking au naturel in the blush department (here). I think almost all of us are somewhat guilty of applying too much blush. It is a kind of double-edge beauty sword; on the one hand a blusher is the most effective way to brighten up a dull face, but applying too much on the other hand, can make you look like a makeup rookie. So it helps when there is a product that gives you a natural, beautiful, believable flush, and saving you from making that embarrassing beauty faux pas.

Clinique Cheek Pop Blush Pop in 08 Melon Pop is my current favourite go-to for a fresh, brightening, natural summer look. It’s a coral pink shade with a slight sheen that gives a lovely natural pinched cheek effect. It also gives a subtle luminous glow, which soften and beautify your complexion. What I love most about this cheek pop is that it goes on very sheer and so it’s designed to be more buildable rather than highly pigmented, which I’m not a fan of because unless you’re extremely light handed, you’re likely going to end up with a bozo face. I always prefer a sheer formula because it means I can gradually build up the colour with a lesser chance of overdoing it.

Melon Pop reminds me a lot of Bourjois Cream Blush in 01 Nude Velvet, which I used to love for an everyday natural look. I think it will work better for fair to medium skin tones but can be too subtle for deeper skin tones (there are other deeper coral shades in the cheek pop range e.g. Ginger Pop or Peach Pop). It also lasts very well on hot and humid days (I would say up to eight hours easily on me), making it very handy for this time of year.

What is your favourite blush this summer?
